At Wallan Primary School, Physical Education plays an important role in promoting fitness, teamwork, and a lifelong love of sport.
Our school is part of the Craigieburn North Primary Sports District and is affiliated with School Sport Victoria. Throughout the year, students in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in district events such as Athletics Carnivals and Cross Country Championships, with the potential to progress to higher levels of competition.
Students in Years 5 and 6 also take part in regular interschool sports, representing Wallan Primary School in competitions held each term against other schools in the district.
All students participate in a 50 minute Physical Education session each week.
Foundation to Year 2: Students develop fundamental motor skills such as running, hopping, skipping, throwing, catching, kicking, and striking. These skills are combined and applied in fun, modified games to build confidence and coordination.
Years 3 to 6: Students strengthen and refine their skills, applying them in more complex sports and activities. They learn strategies to improve both individual and team performance, practise giving constructive feedback, and take on roles such as umpire or referee during games.
Our program focuses on participation, effort, and sportsmanship, helping students develop physical competence and a positive attitude toward being active.
Our new ‘Big Gym’, as we like to call it, has been a game-charger in delivering sport and recreation programs at Wallan Primary. Yet the school has a long and proud history of batting above its weight when it comes to inter-school and state competition, thanks to dedicated staff and talented students.
