Our History

Wallan Primary School opened in 1857.  We continue to educate the children of Wallan and the local district to this day.

Our Philosophy

Purpose - WPS provides a safe and positive learning environment in which all Wallan PS community members experience success.  Through effective and explicit teaching, positive parenting and community support, we promote positive relationships that will sustain social and emotional wellbeing for all.

Values -

GETTING ALONG:

WPS community demonstrates "getting along" with others, whilst being inclusive and accepting of all.  We are honest, respectful, work well together, solve problems and follow school procedures and processes.

CONFIDENCE:

WPS community demonstrates "confidence" by welcoming new opportunities and being open to new challenges.  We are willing to "have a go" and to take risks as we develop a positive belief in ourselves.

ORGANISATION:

WPS community demonstrates "organisation" by setting relevant, measurable and achievable goals.  We regularly review our goals by giving and receiving feedback.  We manage our time and resources in order to achieve our goals.

PERSISTENCE:

WPS community demonstrates "persistence" by trying hard and not giving up when tasks or goals appear difficult or unachievable.  We take risks and display patience, perseverance and commitment whilst remaining positive.

RESILIENCE:

WPS community demonstrates "resilience" by managing our emotions and behaviour when faced with difficult or challenging situations.  We remain calm and use coping strategies such as positive self talk in order to "bounce back."

Wallan Primary School has served the community for 160 years. It aims to provide a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment in which all learners strive for their personal best and experience a sense of achievement. In our school community, students, families and staff demonstrate acceptance and connectedness.

The school's motto of 'Working Together for a Better Future' sums up our values of Getting Along, Organisation, Persistence, Confidence and Resilience which support our students' social and emotional learning. To further build a school wide culture that reflects our values the school has established a "team building" program that operates in all year levels. The teaching staff pride themselves on building positive relationships with the students they teach.

Wallan Primary School provides a comprehensive curriculum with literacy and numeracy being the key focus areas. Each student is catered for by a differentiated curriculum model, where their individual point of learning needs is met. With an enrolment of 600 students, the school operates 27 classrooms.

Wallan has an excellent camping program and participates in inter-school sport, being a leader in the district. The students produce outstanding artwork that is proudly displayed throughout the school and many pieces of art are entered in the local show and sent to Japan for an international student art exhibition. All students participate in specialist science lessons weekly and a specialised digital design and technologies program each term. Student leadership is strong with an active student leadership group. School assemblies are led by the two school captains each fortnight. The school facilities and grounds have undergone refurbishment and development with further grounds works planned for 2018.  These will include replacing play equipment and redeveloping the Foundation playground.
